That is exactly what I have been doing.
On Thursday, September 3, I brought a Pop-Up Town Hall to Bloomsgrove and Hope Street.
No podium.
No council chamber.
No appointment.
Just neighbours coming outside, talking openly and sharing what they want and need from their municipal leadership.
One resident wrote afterward:
“Port Hope needs someone with your integrity and attention to detail… You impressed me a lot today by meeting you in person and engaging in conversation with some of our neighbours!”
That meant a great deal to me.
But the most important part was listening.
I believe residents should not have to chase Town Hall to be heard.
Sometimes Town Hall needs to come to you.
One thing connects these conversations
The people.
The families.
The residents who live behind those doors and on those streets.
What do the flags on my map mean?
It is not the size of the flag.
It is not the location.
It is not decoration.
It is the lives and the people behind those locations.
People who are feeling the pressure of rising property taxes.
People who say they have experienced dismissive interactions when they have raised concerns.
People worried about safety.
People questioning water bills.
People concerned about property rights.
People who simply want to know that when they speak, someone is listening.
That is what those flags represent to me.
Not signs.
People.
And when you see an Angela Grogan sign, I want you to know that I have not simply driven by, put down a sign and left.
I am meeting people.
I am listening.
I am learning about their neighbourhoods and the issues affecting their daily lives.
The signs are what you see.
The people behind them are what matter.
