For Mayor, Port Hope 2026

Your Voice. I'm Listening

I am an everyday person who has lived a full life, worked hard, raised a family, built businesses, changed careers, faced challenges, and learned from experience.

More than fifty years ago, I came to Canada from Barbados with two suitcases, $1,000, and a determination to build a meaningful life. I learned early that opportunities are not always handed to you. Sometimes you have to work for them, create them, and have the courage to take a different path.

My working life has taken me through business, banking, insurance, education, and real estate. I became an entrepreneur at a young age and later owned and operated a Caribbean grocery store in Toronto. I went on to become an educator, and today I am a retired teacher, real estate broker, and owner of Connect AG Realty Inc.

I am also the mother of two adult sons, and family remains one of the most important parts of my life.

But the titles and experiences are only part of who I am.

Angela Grogan, Port Hope mayoral candidate 2026, smiles with a blue macaw parrot on her arm.

Throughout my life, service has come naturally to me. I have often been the person friends could turn to when they needed help. Sometimes that meant helping with childcare. Sometimes it meant opening my home and offering someone a room. Other times, it simply meant listening and being there when someone was going through a difficult time.

Those experiences taught me that people do not always need someone to solve everything for them. Sometimes they need someone willing to listen, lend a hand, open a door, or simply stand beside them while they find their way forward.

Over the years, I have come to understand that service is part of my calling.

That same belief has guided my community involvement. I have served on boards and advisory committees, worked in governance and finance, advocated for inclusion and accountability, and founded the Northumberland Diverse People Coalition. Through those experiences, I have learned that leadership is not about standing above people. It is about respecting them, working alongside them, and recognizing the dignity and value each person brings to a community.

I am naturally curious. I ask questions, I research, and I enjoy meeting people and hearing their stories. I believe leadership requires courage, but it also requires humility: knowing when to speak, when to listen, and when to learn from someone else.

If I am elected Mayor, serving Port Hope will be a full-time responsibility for me. I believe our municipality deserves a Mayor who is present, accessible, committed, and prepared to dedicate the time and energy the position requires.

I bring professional experience, community experience, and a lifetime of human experience.

But at heart, I remain an everyday person who believes deeply in service.

Service is not simply something I do. It is part of who I am.

Kindness is not weakness. It is the strength to listen, the courage to act with compassion, and the discipline to treat every person with dignity, even when we disagree.
